A monster sticks to the wall of skyscraper in the city. Is that a scene
of "King Kong"? Nope. It's the extra-large placard put on the head office of
Hana Bank. It's almost 35m wide, 80m high, 500kg and the surface area is
2,800m2, which is large enough to build 3 or 4 houses.
Printing a placard
took 8 days full. It's not an enormous amount of work. They used only "Hi-Fi Jet
PROII" because they worried about unwanted printing colors. Sewing for forming
the placard took 5 days and 15 workers were required to install it, which took 3
days. We can say "this is the monster placard".
For standing against the
wind, the top of placard was made by mesh cloth. It was directed by 3 divided
parts for preventing accidents. Sin Byung Man, the president of Sindo AD corp.,
who is in charge of installing and manufacturing, said "Installing a huge
placard is so dangerous, specially in the middle of dense buildings. There is
the valley wind which is really different from a normal wind between buildings.
This kind of work requires great skill and knowhow.
We can see it at a glance
not just because scale but also red pot drawn on the placard.
This red pot is
"Big flower pot" which is the artwork of a French artist, Jean-Pierre Raynaud,
It has been displayed in China and France. It is not the first time to introduce
an artwork in the ad, but it is highlighted, using the artwork of living great
master of modern art. This attempt will be the beginning of Ad-art after
ad-movie.
Copyright infringement problem that may happen while using existing
artwork is solved well through direct meeting with an artist. There was a small
anecdote while getting permission. When they asked permission at the first time,
he was against it because he thought that he had to give his artwork in the
tight plan. But he understood and consented a suggestion after he knew that he
didn't need to send it and just needed to allow using image.
The placard "Big
pot" is planning to dismantle at around Oct. It has hung on the wall from 22th
Sep. Song Jun Seo, an assistant manager in Hana bank, said "That's the fact that
we can feel something lacking when thinking about hardship for installing it
even if we can see it about 1 month. The color of placard is white, so it's hard
to keep it clean and we have to worry about the breakage. Because of this kinds
of matters we decided to withdraw it early though we regretted it."

Digital printing is not new any more to manufacture signs. You could
think it's a normal technique but when we look at some corporations' marketing
skills using of digital printing, we can see some constantly plentiful ideas.
There are two cases. Korean Air put the wrapping ad on the building of head
office. Construction site of Bean Pole shop of Cheil Industries was enclosed
with a fence. Let's look at them.
Korean Air has introduced buzz marketing
skills using digital printing, maximizing the publicity effect of the next
generation aircraft Boeing 787 that is planning to be introduced next year.
Recently Korean Air has put the wrapping ad covered over the building on the
head office of Gimpo airport and Myeong-dong Han-jin building for the publicity
of the Boeing 787 that they participated in manufacturing it. Now they have
become a tourist attraction.
Wrapping ad on the Korean Air is 160m wide, 45m
high, almost 7,200m2 total. 175 people had worked for installation for 8 days.
Han-jin's wrapping ad is 37m wide, 58m high of the front, 42m high of the left
corner. It looks like breaking through the front window of building devised by
Jo Hyun Min, a manager in the ad department who is the youngest daughter of
Korean Air president Jo Yang Ho. He has joined last March from total ad company
LG AD.
It is the typical buzz marketing that customers voluntarily get the
message and make the good word of mouth. We can say it's the skill of word of
mouth marketing. The reason why Korean Air is trying to use the word of mouth
marketing is that they want to have a new way of marketing for people to
voluntarily get some interests because using the general mass media such as TV
and radio is not so effective.
Gwang-In SP corp. took the responsibility of
production and LG AD participated as an ad agency. A manager Yun Chang Sun said
"It took almost 10 days to print due to the huge size. We had made it puzzle
that was 1m wide and high, putting numbers each not to confuse installing."

Celebrities, who can easily make women's heart flutter with pleasure only
listening their names, and 5 famous photographers met and worked together for
photo art. Works of art were displayed in an art gallery in Seoul. And also a
placard with the image of "Big flower pot" which is the artwork of a French
artist Jean-Pierre Raynaud has been hanging in the middle of Seoul. They are the
meetings between art and digital printing. Let 's dive into the digital print
art.
"From Far Away", the title of this art gallery, which was hosted by
Tourism authority of Australia and Esquire that is a men professional magazine
took 2 years for preparing. It was held from Sep. 27th to Oct. 3 at Gallery One
in Seoul.
It gained popularity not only from the fashion industry but sign
industry by reason of the support of Korea HP(Hewlett-Packard Company). Korea HP
has supported the art gallery of world famous photographers such as Roberttawpa,
Martinpa, David Alan Harvey and worked for the project which is related to the
development of digital printing and training of korean photographers with korean
art experts. And they also took part in the biggest international photo
exhibition in Korea. They have been strengthening their position in the part of
graphic art. It was the part of graphic art marketing strategy to focus on the
digital printing of creative expert area.
38 photos which were taken in
Sydney, Melbourne, Baron Bay, Great Ocean and Australia from April 2006 to July
2007 for 1 year were printed by the printer of Korea HP, printing was handled at
art center Gaunet.
Gallery One displaying photos used 1 floor above ground
and 2 underground. Second floor underground had the room to display "Design
Z3100" and "Indigo 5500" that were used for printing, a public rehearsal held
last 21th Sep. about how to print gained the interest of parties
concern.
Kang In Ju, a manger of Tourism Authority of Australia, said
"artists are very satisfied with the printing quality of Z3100, and we can feel
dynamic even characters and scenes according to recognizing the details of photo
well.
Printing paper was the Hahnemuler's "Smooth fine art paper" that is
cotton fiber neutral paper. It could deliver a clear color expression and clear
detail through finishing with a flat paint. It also could exactly reproduce the
photo and a work of art.
It had taken a good opinion at the prior test owing
to delivering details well and artists directly had chosen it. HP's entire
support made photos print with it despite its expensive price.
All the
picture frames didn't include a glass to feel how well the paper deliver details
of photos. One of the visitors gave his impression "Even if the photo's size is
actually not as big as I thought but the contrast of white and black is very
impressive despite a color photo".

When we install outdoor signs, we have to consider many parts but
checking of the floating population has to be inevitably carried out because
they have to be installed outside. It means wrapping ad will be one of the
highest effective ads. Specially places near a transfer station and
a busy
street have been getting more effects. As some places are satisfied with that
condition, some advertisers are content
with it.
Recently the giant
picture which is in the right middle of Myeong-dong, main commercial area in
Seoul, has become an popular site due to catching people's interests at a
glance. It's the construction fence for remodeling the shop of Bean Pole that is
27m wide and 18.5m high. It has been installed at Aug. 5th and is going to
dismantle at Sep. 5th right before finishing the construction.
Lim Chang Bin,
a manager of Kohan Design corp., who is in charge of the construction said
"nowadays some remodeling sites set up this kinds of fence. In the past people
hardly could do it due to the legal
restriction but recently if it looks good
and not to spoil the beauty of the city, there is no more restriction."
The
design was originally planned by Cheil Industries corp. but Kohan Design corp.
modified it a little as considering surroundings.
Abel ltd. in Seoul took a
charge of printing. The president of Abel ltd. said "It was divided into 12
pieces and printed through separate printing and put in the sewing process. We
used only one equipment for printing not to have a problem though we had the 3
same digital printers. According to this, it took total 24 hours. Especially
after sewing we made an careful effort. If the placard of installment printing
put right into the sewing process, some errors can be made so we put
double-sided process. We think that we have to make a perfect product even
though we needed to spend more time and cost.
