fluorescent lamp to LED module in Flex sign. Moreover, there is LED fluorescent
lamp which is as same as the existing fluorescent lamps even in terms of the

New technology for flex sign and replacement of
fluorescent lamp in LED market.
Fluorescent lamp has been
loved for a long time by most of customers because of its features such as easy
installation, reasonable price and convenient availability. But because of some
disadvantages like black spot symptom, short life cycle, limited color options,
and shape concern, and so on, fluorescent lamp has to be replaced frequently and
it has mercury against the contemporary environmental paradigm. With those
reasons, other lighting sources are taking fluorescent lamp? market
share.
LED Fluorescent Lamp was first introduced on September 2007 through
our magazine and it successfully hit the sign market. Still LED Fluorescent Lamp
needs developing in some details. Using lots of LED modules leads cost pressure
and installation is not easy like the conventional fluorescent.
Some
companies in sign industry launched flex sign by adopting LED at an exhibition
in last year. Those flex signs were used not only for front sign but also both
side sign for projecting sign and it was not shown before.
Some say that
?here have been attempts to adopt LED to flex signs but there were still some
problems such as price, installation and illumination. However, we expect that
the LED Fluorescent Lamp will be percolated into the market soon with its
properly useful applications because technology improvement is getting
advanced.?orea Photonics Technology Institute(KOPTI) also gives an impetus to
develop not only an optical communication and camera module for mobile phone but
also LED module for sign applications. Recently, a sign company has launched LED
Fluorescent Lamp which may supplement some weak points of the conventional
fluorescent lamp and leave strong points. Its shape is as same as the
conventional fluorescent lamp.
But light emitting methods are different
between LED Fluorescent lamp and fluorescent lamp. Normally, conventional
fluorescent lamp emits light by changing ultraviolet ray to visible ray with
mercury discharge but LED fluorescent lamp uses LED itself.
To improve lens is a main factor for a diffusion of light and light
heading straight.
Is it a fluorescent lamp? It was LED fluorescent
lamp with fluorescent lamp shape after a close look and we could notice it by
its slightly different color. Even though LED color is white, there are various
kinds of LED colors such as blue-white, yellow-white, etc. This time, this lamp
was used blue-white LED. In fact, LED fluorescent lamp was developed to replace
fluorescent lamp.
Does the same shape mean the same function? The questions
on LED are getting bigger and bigger if LED fluorescent lamp has fixed problems
about price, light nature to go straight, not brighter than fluorescent lamp and
user-friendly usage. For example, can LED fluorescent lamp replace fluorescent
lamp for flex sign when fluorescent lamp is out of order?
LED? brightness is
200 luxes with 2 meter standard distance while fluorescent lamp? is 400lux. LED
fluorescent lamp is still waiting to show in the market until Lens?performance
is improved which is core part and takes brightness in LED.
There are two
types of LED module which one is Oval type LED(or Deep type) by using its lens
and the other is SMD type without using lens. Oval type LED can transfer light
further than SMD type but it is not brighter than SMD type. SMD type is being
applied to most of channel signs as it is excellent with diffusion of light and
strong brightness.
But good LED for the market must have those all features.
To be good at light nature to go straight means that it is good at visibility
range. In case of fluorescent lamp, it is possible that the visibility range can
reach to 2 meter away but in case of LED, it is hard to do that. Oval type can
reach 2 meter as the light goes straight well but we can see only one mere spot
when it reaches to the target as the brightness is weak.
Therefore, to
fulfill strong brightness, SMD type must be used, and to apply lens like one
that oval type has to be SMD type is key point. When lens is being applied to
SMD type, it does not go to SMD module directly. It needs a pipe which is same
shape with conventional fluorescent lamp as a lens. It is quietly complicated to
make the pipe because the pipe? molding can not be adjusted once it is made.
Comply with the operating system of Fluorescent lamp
Lens
acts like magnifying glass and they are used for landscape lighting LED over 1
Watt. It affects a lot to landscape lighting LED? brightness and light?
straightforwardness up to more than 10 times of brightness by depending on
lens?existence or nonexistence.
Pipe for LED fluorescent lamp can be made of
either transparent or translucent. If the pipe is transparent, light dots
through transparent pipe can be shown. In case of translucent pipe, brightness
can be strong enough with adding powder and diffusive medium on its surface.
Also it is hard to recognize whether it is LED lamp or fluorescent lamp as the
inside of pipe can not be seen through.
Usually, fluorescent lamp gets 220
voltage input and transforms it to 135 voltages through stabilizer and emits
light. Comparing to fluorescent lamp, LED fluorescent lamp receives 220 voltage
input to PCB which is installed behind to transform 220 voltage to 12 voltage
and emits light. PCB works same function as a stabilizer.
Normally,
fluorescent lamp system has a stabilizer so it has to be adjusted for LED
fluorescent lamp replacement.
