Korean Government has announced an advertising industry
statistics 2007. This is an official publication which has been researched by
Korea Broadcast Advertising Corporation(KOBACO) and announced by MCST after the
grant of national statistical office. This statistics started figuring out the
size of advertising industry and organizing it.
It focuses on 4 major medium;
TV, radio, news paper and magazine. But it added new medium and out-of-home
media to them because of high requirements of well organized study. Not like
previous studies, this year, they created a sales category only for the
companies who have the sales of out-of-home media.
KOBACO said, 'ecause the
scale of 4 major media is so big, they are a main part in this study. But we can
say that the requirements for out-of-home media are getting higher than when we
studied it first in 2005. So we created the sales of out-of-home media in the
survey for the first time and it means the sign industry.'
OOH media accounts for 13.4% of the whole advertising
market.
If we look into the announcement, the whole scale of
out-of-home media is $822 mil and it accounts for 13.4% of the whole advertising
market. 4 major media take 63% with $3,864 mil. New media including cable,
satellite, online, mobile and DMB, take 21.7% with $1,330. Those percentages of
4 major media and new media are total amount of media. Therefore, the amount of
out-of-home media takes quite a lot as it is a single item.
This study
divided subjects into 2 parts; top 100 big companies and small and medium-sized
companies which are not in top 100. In out-of-home media market, the sales of
the former amounts $447 mil while the latter amounts $374. The figures take 9.6%
and 25.6% out of their whole markets. In 4 major media, it amounts $3,462
mil.(74.2%) and $644 mil.(13.8%) in new media market from big companies.
From
small companies, it consists of 27%($399 mil.) in 4 major media and 46.8%($685
mil.) in new media. As a single medium, online takes no.1 with 38.5%($564 mil.)
and out-of-home media follows by taking 25.6%($374 mil.). According to the data,
4 major media take the most in big companies while new media is the highest
portion in small companies out of whole advertising market. As a single medium,
TV takes the most in the whole market, and big companies, and online and
out-of-home media are the highest in small companies.
