Outstanding refinement finished by
EPOXY RESIN
In sign industry, renewal of corporate identity(hereinafter, C.I.) is a
kind of feast. Once a shop gets an order for C.I. renewal, it may mean that the
shop can have a lot of profit. But if the shop cares only money, it is highly
dangerous to complete the work. Renewing C.I. needs quite a high level of
quality checking. The shop should build sufficient plans and does a quality test
to make a client satisfy with the work.
KEB(Korea Exchange Bank) has changed
their C.I. lately, Let's look into what things were changed.
Finished by epoxy resin for extreme face-lit
Previous sign had used
acrylic cap and placed LED inside the cap. Current sign has used epoxy resin for
finishing instead of using acrylic cap.
Kim Li Yong, a director in ADMIRROR,
said "A big difference between the current and previous channel sign is that we
finished the sign with epoxy resin instead of acrylic cap. The problem of
acrylic cap is that the gap between frame and cap can have a crack over time,
and it may cause light leaking through the crack. But epoxy resin never happens
like that unless a crack is made on purpose."
Epoxy resin prevents the light
from leaking through the crack and the reflexibility is very efficient. So
people feel that the surface is lighting rather than LED emits the light. It is
literally face-lit and epoxy resin suggests new turning point.
New assemble items to differentiate from previous sign
Previous channel
sign used screw spikes to connect top and bottom substrates. But this time,
clips were used for connection. Mr. Kim said "Screw spike has been used for a
long time for channel sign. Top and bottom substrates have to be detached both
to replace LED inside. But clip only needs to take top substrate only."
The
completed channel sign is 45cm wide complying with the related government
regulation. Because of the size, visibility can be weak but it looks
luxurious.

1,2 : stage to fill up epoxy
resin. finishing inside with ray-diffusion PVC and pure epoxy resin
3 : Pour epoxy resin on ray-diffusion PVC. Pour
transparent epoxy resin firstly, and then apply white epoxy resin after
drying.
4. Temperature is crucial for epoxy
drying. Keep the temperature even during drying.
5, 6
: KEB Logo is finished by printed image so it doesn't need white epoxy.
Use adhesive to attach transparent epoxy to frame after drying.
7, 8 : Bottom of channel sign uses PVC foam sheet and place
LEDs. LEDs are placed as planned before installation.
9,
10 : Do the final test whether lights are overlapped or not.
11, 12 : Clipping process. Insert clips into PVC foam sheet
of bottom substrate.
13, 14 : Connecting top and
bottom substrates by using clips. put the clip to groove on the top
substrate.
15 : Finished channel. Looking neat and
polishing than using screw spike.
16, 17 : KEB
logo is finished by printing instead of pouring white epoxy.
