LED lighting which spends less power and is ecofriendly product has met a real 'Environment'. Living Light performed by City Gallery, Seoul's public art project, indicates the level of 25 districts' air pollution in Seoul with LED lighting. Unusually the air pollution was shown by figures on electronic display board before, but Living Light displays it by LED lighting.

"Is the air clean where I live?" Even though we can see the electronic display board to check air pollution level, the figures with measure unit 'microgram' comes unfamiliar to us. Living Light doesn't indicate exact figures like on the electronic display board, but it provides the chance to people to approach environment more easily and closer.
Living Light, designed by artist Suin Yang and David Benjamin who run architectural firm 'The Living' in Seoul and New York was awarded in 2008 City Gallery free proposal.
Yang said "Most people don't understand the numerical value on the electronic display board. It's true that the possibility of approach is also important but it is also true that readability must follow for understanding of information. Living Light is visual and simple to display as the way of 'clean air lighting on, polluted air lighting off' And people can immediately understand them."
Living Light divides 25 districts in Seoul into 27 transparent acrylic panels according to 27 measurement stations in Seoul. To recognize those districts easily, Seoul road map was cut by CNC router and placed thin white LED bars on the edge of panels.
A LED manufacturer, LED Korea Inc. developed LEDs to solve durability and water proof for outdoor installation.
Living Light receives measured data from Seoul Atmospheric Environment Information Service and LED lighting transfers in real time.
Living Light turned off in every 15 minute and turned on in order from the cleanest district to the worst. The light will be turned on if the air condition gets better comparing to the same day in last year. So LEDs can show the level of air pollution in Seoul easily. People can know how their area's air pollution is and also can check the whole area of Seoul just watching the light. Also people can check the air pollution by receiving text message and the light of the relevant area flickers to show citizens' interests. JinWook Beak who controls LED light software in RANDOM WORKS said "Software replies air info when people send messages with their zip code. And we send info to hardware to flicker the light in a relevant area." To control LED light, series communication type RS485 is used and its communication range is more than 1km comparing to a usual serial communication.
Beak said "Living Light used 150m cable and it would be impossible if we used a usual serial."

Interior and Ad at one time

A mirror is an essential element to compose a certain space from living and working area to commercial area.
Like this, mirror is applied to many areas and good to be uses as a promotional material. Recently LED lighting has added to mirror and let's see the real case.

As mentioned above, mirrors are widely used and easily seen every place. It is not only used for people to see themselves on it but also used for an interior element having closely relative to people's life. Apart from its original function, LED lighting has added to mirror recently. In Kintex (Korea internation alexhibition center), LED lighting mirrors were installed at Dunkin'Donuts' and Japanese restaurant. Both shops displayed LED lighting mirrors outside of their shop to be recognized by customers easily, and with mirrors' original feature, the effect of ad is high because customers see mirrors thoughtlessly.
The owner of the Japanese restaurant said, "We bought the LED lighting mirror through the internet to find unique and special items.
Customers don't know what exactly menus are when they just see the sign of shop and it is very helpful for them to see menus from the mirror. Mirror is also hung easily on the wall so it is neater than hanging banners, and moreover we can put additional images or menus."
Dunkin'Donuts' uses the mirror for the purpose of interior to decorate the shop with putting their original logo and a donut image on it. The LED lighting mirror maximizes the visibility to compose full color by responding LED lighting from spreaded painting on the mirror. All 11 ways of LED lighting effects are controlled simply by one switch such as dimming effects to change colors by speed and flickering effect and so on.
The LED lighting mirror also can be attached on the wall because LED bars could make the frame slim. The LED lighting mirrors applied to both shops have 43cm width with 4 LED bars. 2 LED bars are attached to each top and bottom of the mirror and the size of mirrors is 150×90cm for Japanese restaurant and 140× 90cm for Dunkin'Donuts'.
The LED lighting mirrors successfully gained visitors' attention during exhibition with various strengths like dynamic color effects, slim design, simple installation and so on. And also the differentiated ad effect excellently carried out the competition with other shops. Besides this, the LED lighting mirrors are used for ad media or interior decoration in child care center, hotel, etc.
JinWook Lee, a CEO of LED Park developed the LED lighting mirror said "Mirror is essential to everywhere.
The LED lighting can be applied to every place where people need mirrors and it can bring the maximum ad effect with low cost.
And also power consumption of the LED lighting is so low that shop owners can reduce cost, and they promote their business with excellent exposure effect by the mirror's nature."
