If there is a color indigenous to each season, is yellow or pink for spring?
Is green for summer? Is brown for fall? And is white for winter? LG Decovil has
recently been re-modeled with a large, leaf-shaped, green exterior, which evokes
the feeling of summer around the shop. Serving as a display shop for LG
Chemical’s interior products, LG Decovil consists of two stories. The first
floor displays a variety of materials and products, while the second floor is a
showroom for LG Chemical’s products. To break the uncomfortable atmosphere of
the construction materials, the shop has just completed its remodeling, with
naturalism as its theme. Also, the newly designed interiors and exteriors help
deliver the environment-friendly message that the shop wants to promote. The
design work took a month because the shop put its heart into the redecoration
plan, including holding several meetings. The digital printing graphics on the
front of the building is 30.7*4.7 m, resembling an enlarged leaf. Lighting
fixtures mounted at the top and the bottom of the graphics increase visibility
at night. Woosuk Han, direct manager of the shop, said, “After the interior and
exterior decoration were newly installed, the shop’s atmosphere have been
totally refreshing.

Blue skies are soothing to passersby. Yabgujung Galleria Department Store was
determined to conceal the construction work involved in remodeling its building
with super-sized graphics. The total size of the graphics is 26(H) * 100(W) m.
The main purpose of the fence on the construction site is to hide a disorderly
and chaotic work environment. However, some graphics on the fence make the site
even more distracted and confusing. The recent graphics on the fence of the
construction site increased not only the aesthetics, but also the safety in the
work site. Sungwon Jo, manager of Hanhwa Stores Co., Ltd., which designed the
graphics of Yabgujung Galleria Department Store, mentioned, that “the building
would be going for a more environment-friendly image.” “Because the department
store remains open for business during the remodeling, we devoted ourselves to
designing the most attractive graphics. We made a variety of graphics, and
selected cloud patterns, which not only made people feel comfortable and calm,
but also removed the feeling of uneasiness due to the construction work.” It was
also important to maintain the safety of the construction site. Kwangsung Kim, a
general manager of Volcano, which fabricated and installed the graphics for the
project, said, “Because it was critical that super-sized graphics withstand
strong winds, the mesh material was ideal for the graphics work.”

To commemorate the 2002 FIFA World Cup, an exciting and enthusiastic music
stage would be reproduced at the Seoul City Hall on June 2, 2005. The graphics,
featuring soccer players and fans, was digitally printed to convey the shouts of
joy and excitement at that time. Wookdong Go, an art director for KBS Artvision,
unveiled the graphics. “We stressed the visual effect of the soccer players and
the fans to relive the same atmosphere during the 2002 FIFA World Cup.” Each of
the graphics featuring soccer players was split-printed in 4*8 m sizes. Then, 20
graphics featuring the fans were also split-printed in 3*6 m sizes. All the
graphics were placed next to each other. Especially, the graphics of the fans
looked as if an enormous number of people were onstage. Daesung Art and AdPlus
printed all of the graphics with the NovaJet 850 and DesignJet 5000 on fabric
banner media, putting several holes on the center of the graphics to reduce wind
load. In the last four to five years, digital graphics have been applied onto
stage backdrops because large-format graphics can be produced with the available
technology on a variety of media.

Now, a retail shop should have at least one unique marketing strategy to
succeed in the business. In particular, sign systems and interior decoration are
critical in attracting people to a shop. Bitmax DVD entered the franchise
business in 2001, and established different shop images through interior and
exterior decorations. Baesuk Hong, president of Bitmax DVD, said that he planned
to uniquely and elegantly dress up every shop with colorful graphics. Digital
printing technology proved to be the best solution for such design strategy.”
The concept was determined according to the tastes of the customers and the
owner of the franchise. So, 11 franchises of Bitmax DVD have totally different
graphics. One of their shops has been decorated with war-related images as its
theme. The graphics is splendid enough to draw customers’ interest. On the
entrance stairs, a soldier graphic aims a gun to welcome customers. A wide range
of graphics filled the walls of the shop. All graphics were printed in high
resolution (600 dpi) with Novajet 750 because they can easily be seen from a
short distance.

Many companies have used elevator doors for their outdoor advertisements. But
among a great number of advertisements, SK Teletech’s cellular phone
advertisement became a subject of conversation. SK Teletech has recently placed
their ad on the headquarters of KBWA Korea and CineU. This advertisement doubled
the impact by making full use of elevators. When the elevator is closed,
someone’s hand tries to catch a cellular phone. When it is open, the hand pulls
away from the phone, very well describing people’s craving to reach out to their
cellular phones. Hunyoung You, president of GeonAd, presented that advertisement
on elevator doors. It provides a great visual impact and public
exposure.

On May 8, 2005, Genman Motors, the distributor of BMWs, will be opening its
showroom. The purpose of the showroom is to promote and market the company’s
products to customers. The motor showroom should be displayed with highly visual
and perceptible graphics than other product showrooms. For a world-class
carmaker like BMW, the interior and exterior showroom is adorned with splendid
and high-quality digital graphics. Everything, including the exterior and
interior displays, was intended to symbolize the innovative and high-class
technology of BMW cars. The showrooms on the first and second floors can
accommodate about 14 cars. Two large-format digital graphics that look as if the
car is rushing toward people were displayed on the facade. Sikyoun Kang,
president of GidCore, which took charge of the project, described, “We designed
the graphics work with the data that the BMW headquarters provided because car
images require more accurate and elaborate graphics achievement.” Unlike the
exterior display, the image of nature, such as blue skies and white clouds, was
used in the interior displays to convey a comfortable and genial feeling. All
the graphics were printed in 720 dpi with UltraVu 3360.
